17 Days Upper Mustang Trek

17 Days Upper Mustang Trek is a fascinating journey to the once ancient kingdom of Lo-Manthag. This trek was hidden or unknown for very long time and was officially opened in 1992.  This trek offers a stunning trekking experience in the isolated trans-Himalayan region of Nepal. You will be taken to the hidden world of old Buddhist Kingdom of Mustang. As this trek is a rare privilege, you will experience a way of life of true mountain people.

Upper Mustang takes you to the sight of unique blend of the Tibetan culture and the deserted landscapes. You will be amazed to view the copper red parched valleys, deep gorges and eroded canyon. The trails are decorated with colorful prayer flags, mudbrick houses and mani walls. This place can be the excellent place to experience untouched Tibetan Buddhist culture as you can see some impacts in architecture, language and arts. The settlements of people are very few in this area. The people here follow Tibetan Buddhism and they are religious with their own unique culture and way of living. As we go trek to Upper Mustang region, it is a dazzling creation of nature where people forget their stress being here. We will also go through beautiful landscapes and Gurung villages as well. As you can opt to walk to this region even in Monsoon so Upper Mustang trek is peculiar from other treks in Nepal. This region is least affected by monsoon because this region lies in the rain shadow area of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. You can witness panoramic views of the Himalayas and can experience the wilderness and wonders of the hidden kingdom. You will also explore the deepest George and valley of the world. Views of dazzling Himalayan peaks like Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Nilgiri, Thorang and other high peaks. Just to the north of the town there is a prominent hill that is capped by two ruined forts. From the highest point of this hill it is possible to look across Lo Manthang and back all the way to the Annapurna - a fascinating perspective. The beautiful environment of the Himalayas is also an extremely fragile one. At Destination Nepal Tours & Travels, we are extremely conscious about the environment and aim to minimize the detrimental impact on the environment as much as possible.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Destination Nepal Tours & Travels works with the motto 'Development through Tourism'. Keeping in line with this motto, DNTT encourages its clients who besides trekking and climbing the Himalayas are also interested in contributing for the development of Nepal.

CARE FOR PORTERS AND STAFFS
We ensure that all porters and all other staff climbing in high altitude conditions are provided with adequate clothing and equipment. We ensure that the porters we hire are insured. We run the trek according to the guidelines of the International Porter Protection group (IPPG- www.ippg.net).

PRE-TRIP MEETING
On the second day of the itinerary, we host a Pre-Trip short Meeting at the hotel by your trek guide, the primary purpose of the meeting is to provide brief information on your trek and equipments hiring if needed.
Please bring the following thing on the meeting-

  • Passport
  • Two copies of Passport size photos each.
  • Travel Insurance Policy.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
We strongly recommend that you check your government's travel advisory for up-to-date information and advice about your destination: safety and security, entry requirements, health, local laws and customs, including advice re: the legality of and local attitudes towards same-sex relationships.

TIPS
Tipping is the accepted way of saying 'thank you' for good service. Tips do not form part of the wages of your guides, porters and trek crew but they are very much appreciated. It is important to remember that tipping is voluntary and should be dependent on good service. Normally the tips are given at the end of the trek and this is best done as a group. Most groups will give the tips with a bit of ceremony (or sometimes a party) on the last evening, to mark the end of the trip. The amount depends on your budget and appreciation of their work.
